Bound by two ancient yew trees, this door looks more like a portal to a fairy realm than a church entrance. St Edward’s Church was built in the Middle Ages and is now a medley of fixtures from various centuries. Explore the building and you’ll find fragments dating from the 1000s through the 1600s, as well as pieces installed during Victorian-era restorations. Its tree-framed north door was constructed during the 13th century. Food for thought – This door inspired JRR Tolkien’s for the Gate of Moria (the Lord of the Rings).

The Bosco Verticale / Vertical Forest high-rise complex in Milan, Italy. The plant life, which is said to equal 3 hectares of forests (20,000 sq m), not only moderates the temperature in summer and winter but also converts as much as 30 tonnes of CO2 each year. On top of that, it filters out dust particles, protects the residents from noise pollution and creates a microhabitat for insects and birds.

The Tree of Life is right here. Created naturally after a few stormy days here in the Clarence Valley
The Water is soaked by Tea Tree Oils hence the brown colour and the extra water flowing out of the lake has created this stunning natural master piece

The origin of the term “Tree hugger”
The first tree huggers were 294 men and 69 women belonging to the Bishnois branch of Hinduism, who, in 1730, died while trying to protect the trees in their village from being turned into the raw material for building a palace. They literally clung to the trees, while being slaughtered by the foresters. But their action led to a royal decree prohibiting the cutting of trees in any Bishnoi village. And now those villages are virtual wooded oases amidst an otherwise desert landscape.
Not only that, the Bishnois inspired the Chipko movement (chipko means “to cling” in Hindi) that started in the 1970s, when a group of peasant women in the Himalayan hills of northern India threw their arms around trees designated to be cut down. Within a few years, this tactic, also known as tree satyagraha, had spread across India, ultimately forcing reforms in forestry and a moratorium on tree felling in Himalayan regions.

🌳Winter Tree ID🌳
It is that time of year when learning how to identify trees in winter is at its best. Whilst the leaves maybe off the trees you can still use features such as buds to learn which tree is which.
The buds of trees are quite distinctive from species to species, so we have produced a FREE ID sheet for you to use when you are out and about on your next walk, to help learn some of the commoner species here in the U.K.
Why not see how many of them you can spot….
This sheet only covers deciduous trees, we are planning a coniferous ID sheet later this year.
The sheet which can be downloaded and printed to A3 can be found on our resources page by following this link, https://www.discoverthewild.co.uk/resources

Tree House built from Wood pallets and leftover boards

The nearly 12,000-acre park was established in 1982 and is part of the larger Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area. A visit to Zhangjiajie can seem like a visit to a mythical world. The local fauna only add to the park’s mystique, for among the stealthy inhabitants of this unusual ecosystem is the clouded leopard, a rare wild cat that is considered an evolutionary link between smaller cats, such as the lynx, and the big cats like lions and tigers.

Yin and Yang in their tree nest…

Known by many names, the most famous being The Paperbark Cherry, Tibetan Cherry or Latin for Prunus Serrula. It’s is an ornamental flowering deciduous shrub tree that can grow to a height of 20-30 feet. Native to China. It’s captivating and majestic high gloss, coppery-brown bark, heavily banded with bumpy lines (dull lenticels). In the fall the tree showcases red berrries with the foliage warming up to a golden-yellow color before shedding for the winter. By spring time it emerges with tiny white flowers in small clusters.
